In 2010 Dakar’s National Gallery of Art devoted a retrospective to him. interdisciplinary work encompassed painting, drawing, sculpting, assemblage, installation, performance, playwriting, essay and note writing, and poetry. Also known as Joe Ouakam, was one of the co-founders of Laboratoire Agit’Art, a Dakar-based collective dedicated to revitalizing African art through the examining of international forms of artistic expression and schools of thought. When I read that artist Issa Samb passed away earlier this week, something compelled me to learn more.
