Its a compelling story,but the book jumped around too much, was repetitive and I agree with the other reviews that said it was about too many things; part about the house and the oddities that happened there, part about marriage, part about childhood, part about the authors childhood,part about the authors views on life and part favorite quotes. The Arnold Estate, located just beyond the village of Harrisville, Rhode Island seemed the idyllic setting in which to raise a family. This is a sacred story of spiritual enlightenment, told some thirty years hence. It was not scary--it was boring and annoying. I bought Volume 2. Overwritten, flowery (but wilted) prose that frightens the reader with its monotonous voice that threatens to never end. After nearly a decade the family left a once beloved home behind though it will never leave them, as each remains haunted by a memory. The movie "The Conjuring" was based on their experience. During a sance gone horribly wrong, they unleashed an unholy hostess; the spirit called Bathshebaa God-forsaken soul. She would vaguely refer to events, but as far as I could tell, never followed up with any details. My birthdate: October 10, 1958...the only one of five siblings to be born in Rhode Island. This book was about the Perron family's experience in a haunted farmhouse. It took an age to finish and in reality could have been half the length it is.This was the hardest book I have ever read!
