It is with much love and sorrow that we mourn the passing of Dennis Shepherd, of Wallsburg, Utah.
Dr. Shepard had a true passion for eye surgery, taking the most challenging cases, with a dogged determination to give sight to all who came to him.
After a six-month whirlwind romance, the couple married. In 1959, he met Franziska Mueller, who had recently moved to Oregon from Austria. His residency at UCLA brought them to California; their desire for a smaller town brought them to Santa Maria in 1967. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
He was also the Consultation Editor of the "Annals of Ophthalmology." He and his wife, Judy Shepard, are co-founders of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, and advocates for LGBT rights.
