And, after having watched it, I'm glad I was drawn to it because of him-- it's brilliant. We have had a few fairly unremarkable adaptations of Scottish novelist Irvine Welsh's books, supporting the notion that with the one exception of Danny Boyle's phenomenal 'Trainspotting', his material remains pretty much impossible to put on the screen. In the bedroom at Ocky's flat, Bruce lifts the inhaler and the dark blue cap is on, but he immediately snaps it up and takes a puff without removing the cap. I was soooo looking forward to this film, as the write ups had been excellent, and as I had missed it at the cinema so decided to order a copy.
Despite some inconsistent tone, FILTH is a darkly comic film about a despicable cop's descent into madness.
It was an ok movie that really showed how disfunctional some people are, and who are in high profile jobs....but that is just true life is it not?

54 of 76 people found this review helpful. I had no idea what to think before viewing this film but I loved it, it has McAvoy puppeting peoples actions, occasionally crossing the fourth wall when he looks at the camera and drissled with some surreal elements.

Bruce, earlier in the film, does not take his real-life medication, and is consequently vulnerable to 'false transmissions' of hallucinations and paranoias. Another disclaimer, I have never read Irvine Welsh so I have no emotional investment in the books that either movie came from. Watch it.
Other than possibly feeling sorry for him (which is a stretch), the only thing audiences will have to connect with is the promise of being reunited with family, which is what he hopes to achieve with the promotion. Guilt-stricken after a job gone wrong, hitman Ray and his partner await orders from their ruthless boss in Bruges, Belgium, the last place in the world Ray wants to be. Scheming Bruce Robertson, a bigoted and corrupt policeman, is in line for a promotion and will stop at nothing to get what he wants.
