it's all that talk about frank sinatra, like we haven't heard that side before. I find it ironic how it’s brought up in me so many different memories and emotions yet memory loss is the concept of this project. i think it tails off somewhere about jazz, and not the jazz i know. Four years in the making; following one of the past decade’s most critically adored releases; massive anticipation; the divisive reaction of the music-listening community towards Newsom’s work; a very short gap between announcement and release; Newsom’s first shot at self-producing her work; mixed by Jim O’Rourke and Noah Georgeson, two of the key figures in the production of Ys and The Milk-Eyed Mender, respectively; and, of course, the triple-album format.
