Anyway, on to my opinion. You could say this movie is very loosely based on the book. The story is about how, many years later, he and his daughter rescue his wife and manage to extinguish the evil characters. Kids stuff really, a fantasy world coming from a book, very loosely like the Jumanji film with Robin Williams.Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 12, 2018 I've never read the book in which this movie was based on, but as far as fantasy adaptations go, I've read the book and I think this movie followed it quite well. This arrived on time, this was as appeared, albeit appearances can be decieving. And really, after watching this movie, maybe it's a good thing because if they did the 'goofy lighthearted predictable' thing on books number 2 and 3, I would have been really disappointed. If you have read and enjoyed the book, don't bother seeing this movie. Unlike Harry Potter, this movie started filming in 2006, but was later released in Germany and the UK in 2008 and the USA release in 2009. I really enjoyed the film although the book had the edge as I felt the impact of some of the characters' actions were lost in the acting.
