However, the mindless prima donna cannot decide between her weird seducer and an equally unappealing nobleman, and the threesome's tiresome sexual excesses eventually result in a nasty mess. The cast was top notch and it was wonderful to see at the end of the performance Sir Andrew Loyd-Webber, the original cast with Sarah Brightman and my very favorite Phantom, Michael Crawford which I got to see perform in POTO in Los Angeles many years ago. Surely there are changes to fit the venue and filming but it is close to the original production, unlike the current US tour (although latter is still worth seeing). Of the three, Boggess is the best Christine, followed by O'Byrne, then Rossum falls way behind. I had never seen this movie before, and have fallen in love with it! When he falls fatally in love with the lovely young soprano Christine, the Phantom devotes himself to creating a new star for the Opera. Great movie. It has amazing songs, amazing singers and overall the movie is just outstanding!.

To compare this with the London musical with Karimloo as Phantom, I prefer how they didn't make Butler's Phantom's entire face scarred and even with the scarring you could see that he is otherwise very handsome. Paris Opera understudy Christine Daae (Asia Argento) is mesmerized and corrupted by a human rat and indiscriminate killer known as The Phantom (Julian Sands) who lurks in the bowels of the opera house. He has virtually no redeeming values except his music which comes at a price... Love Never Dies, the sequel to this movie is out - and it has superb vocals. No pair could ever do it better. My wife had never seen the stage version or heard the soundtrack until recently I played the opening scene of the auction to her. If you have never seen it; now's your chance. Several million people have seen the musical Phantom of the Opera on stage, but this film version makes it accessible to everyone. The only bummer about this story (not the move per se) is how negative the Phantom character is in general. The Phantom can be partially facially disfigured but still otherwise handsome and human and sexy and you can see what the rest of his face looks like and would otherwise look like without the scarring. Butler sounds very masculine, and looks very masculine.
Me being stupid, I thought it was going to be extremely boring with a terrible storyline, I also thought that the whole movie would be in Black and White! Gerard Butler (as the Phantom), Emmy Rossum (as Christine) and Patrick Wilson (as Raoul) play out the fateful love triangle that unfurls in splendor, suspense.
