Sandi Tan is adapting Elif Batuman's Pulitzer-finalist bestselling novel "The Idiot" (Penguin) as a screenplay she will direct as a feature film, with Animal Kingdom and Cinereach producing.

After being blown away by that magnificent masterpiece, I learned that she had also penned this novel, set in a land she calls The Black Isle, which is undoubtedly a thinly-veiled version of her native Singapore.
