So I did. It also seemed to be two different books - one set in the desert with Jacob, biblical super-stud, and his wives; and the other one set in ancient Egypt. Not many people have seen this movie, it runs a little too long, and it's not what I'd call an enjoyable movie, but that doesn't mean it isn't a good one. a list of 11 titles Stories about food show a strong connection. This was a very compelling read, and I don't have enough words to describe how beautiful the writing is.
I did manage to read the whole thing, and enjoyed reading about Dinah making the most of her life and incorporating things she learned from her mothers. They are both crazy in love but manage to strangle the supply of oxygen and adapt to each other in a way that will lead to catastrophic consequences. This book is good, in the sense that she takes an interesting concept (a bit of the bible) and expounds upon it. Set against a backdrop of war, religious strife and power struggles which tears lives and families apart. Anita Diamant wove a very intricate and poignant story that captivated me, and I think I'll be moonstruck for a while! I did not finish reading this book because on a personal level I found it too disgusting.
Dinah's tale is one that deserves fleshing out; in the Bible it is an interesting though undeveloped and uncertain chronicle. It would be appropriate for a movie set in the 19th Germany or England, not this era.

That part was great. The author does a fairly decent job of developing her female characters, but her male characters are largely flat, stereotypical, and unnecessarily negative. This is one of my favorite books. It is a first-person narrative that tells the story of Dinah, daughter of Jacob and Leah, sister of Joseph. I think if I wasn't reading this book through a Latter-day Saint lens, I would have given it four stars, because the prose is absolutely gorgeous. The ending of the book is so beautiful and profound. This is a woman's book through and through. Yes, the people in the Bible were real people with varied flaws and gifts, but I didn't like the portrayal of so many of them as petty and conniving. What hurts most? So for the most part, I just didn't like it. And I mean ALOT of characters.My apologies to Anita Diamant. Anita Diamant is the author of twelve books -- the newest novel being THE BOSTON GIRL. I think she is a great storyteller, a la Barbara Kingsolver and John Irving.
