For me on my fretted guitar box it is a bit more tricky :-) I'm mostly in to playing heavier music,reggae,punk but I really do enjoy playing all genre even though some might not be my thing I still respect it and try to take inspiration from it. I prefer Wes, Grant Green, and Jimmy Bruno playing standards rather than Pat Metheny modern-type stuff.
There are some exercises to practice in the Ligon books, but they mostly present the material and leave it up to the individual to work things out on paper. This Jazz Piano Book is so much easier to read than other dry books on music theory.
Not my bag. I got this book recently, and it is very comprehensive. And after all, it is theory

but you might want to check out the Arabic Maqam system which has some beautiful scales, some involving quarter tones.

It's very informative and I'm sure it's gonna take me a few years to get the best out of it, but I wonder is it still worth getting the jazz piano book or does it cover most of the same stuff? I just bought jazz theory resources vol 1.
The theory book has some stuff about the piano and vice versa, but both have stuff the other book doesn't. I think I'm more interested in pre than post. Trust me, I do a lot of playing

One of the best investments a budding jazz musician or aficionado can make. You need at least one other book to balance its bias, which is towards chord-scale theory. I have the Levine book, and I'd recommend it with reservations.
