Hercules is finally a happy family man with his wife Deianeira, two young sons Aeson and Clonus, daughter Ilea and in-living centaur Nessus. The soapy first half, mostly centred around envy and infidelity, with an abundance of suggestion (done tastefully for the most part - although "Cliff Curtis-taur" does get quite rapey), honestly had me running entirely on nostalgia.
The next call for help is made by Iole, from a city where people are killed by the fume from an entrance to the underworld which opened the earth there. Kevin Sorbo carries this film but don't go expecting miracles.

Seeing Giant González brutally wallop some innocent townsfolk, to then face off against Herc was fun and all, but that's, like, the only highlight of the first hour or so. “Hercules in the Underworld” is the fourth made for TV movie in the series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.

This was surprisingly dark! Lost civilizations. Hercules, aided by his best friend Iolaus, goes on many adventures helping people and slaying mythical monsters using his half-god strength. Hercules, now married to Deianeira (Tawny Kitaen) and father to three kids, is asked for help by a young woman (Marley Shelton) whose village is endangered by a portal to the underworld that has opened up there.
Nessus grumbles he's tired of the Herc-idolatry. Then one day he is persuaded out of his farming "retirement"... I really liked how they did the underworld. Best parts are the double cameo by 'Iolaus' Michael Hurst in two different roles and the mechanical hound Cerberus…Watchlist of movies that only you and your best friends might appreciate. Then the last survivor of a ... Hercules once again comes to the rescue and faces one of his most difficult challenges, and must prove himself as a man as well as a god.

Even though it's not the fastest told Hercules-movie it rushes through some storylines (the whole envy-triangle-story and Herc wondering if he's immortal or not) way too fast.
